Stardust
Yesterday's comic on my Far Side calendar made a reference to the song "Stardust". How does the song go?

I had no idea, but the Wikipedia entry for the song links to Real audio files of it being played by Hoagy Carmichael (the composer), Louis Armstrong (singing the lyrics added four years later by Mitchell Parish), and Fats Waller. As it turns out, I had heard it before, but never would have connected the tune to the title.

A search on "stardust lyrics" will turn up the lyrics, but I can't recommend a site for that since I don't know a good lyrics site that doesn't run annoying ads or malicious scripts (I use Firefox extensions to block such things). I assume that Wikipedia doesn't allow the posting of such things for copyright reasons. So what the heck, I'll go ahead and post them here. Don't tell the copyright lawyers.
And now the purple dusk of twilight time
Steals across the meadows of my heart
High up in the sky the little stars climb
Always reminding me that we're apart

You wander down the lane and far away
Leaving me a song that will not die
Love is now the stardust of yesterday
The music of the years gone by

Sometimes I wonder why I spend
The lonely night dreaming of a song
The melody haunts my reverie
And I am once again with you
When our love was new
And each kiss an inspiration
But that was long ago
Now my consolation
Is in the stardust of a song

Beside a garden wall
When stars are bright
You are in my arms
The nightingale tells his fairy tale
of paradise where roses bloom
Though I dream in vain
In my heart it will remain
My stardust melody
The memory of love's refrain

Fun trivia fact: when I burst into song (an almost-daily occurrence), I almost always start with Stardust.

Really. The three songs I usually begin with, in order of occurrence:

Stardust
A Mighty Fortress is Our God
I Can't Be Bothered
