PETA is offering a $1 million X Prize for the “first person to come up with a method to produce commercially viable quantities of in vitro meat at competitive prices by 2012.” Apparently there is considerably dissension in the ranks on this topic, but pragmatism, in the form of less suffering for fewer animals, won out.
