05:14 am - 100 Stories #3: The Giving Contest

A day early, but this one was easy. I wrote a similar story long ago that didn't quite work, so all I really did this morning was edit from memory. It came out to 94 words on first draft.

"I challenge you to a giving contest," said the cobbler, "Loser pays one thousand gold pieces."

"Accepted," the dragon replied.

The cobbler gave the dragon some old boots, scrap leather, and rusty tools. "That's all I have," he said.

The dragon gave the cobbler a pile of gold, a pile of silver, a pile of jewels, and the Princess Hortensia. "That's all I have," he said.

"I should have known better than to challenge a dragon," the cobbler said, counting out one thousand pieces from the pile of gold.

"Darn right," the dragon replied.

06:10 am - We Need This at Work

The Google Mini. Oh, to have all those SOPs and requirements and emails and design docs available for Google search. *sigh*

08:40 am - On the Lam

Over vacation I found myself wondering about the origin of the term "on the lam." This morning I remembered to look it up on the web. Most pages I found were in agreement as to the origin, but this one was the funniest.

10:45 am - Amber Diceless Roleplaying

I just found out you can get electronic copies of both rulebooks from DriveThruRPG for $12 each. Here's the link. Not a bad deal at all.

06:03 pm - Magic Geeks

Earlier this week I found a printout of this article in a men's room stall at work. That means somebody there is a bigger Magic: The Gathering geek than I am. Maybe even bigger than [info]maerson... nah, probably not.

06:07 pm - What has it got in its pocketses?

Since [info]krikketgirl showed us the contents of her purse, it seemed to me like it might be fun to share what we carry in our pockets. (This way I also get to brag about one of my Christmas presents!)

I typically have:
* A wallet, containing various cards and ID, a little cash, and some receipts.
* A PAA (Personal Analog Assistant), otherwise known as a pocket-sized notebook.
* A black pen.
* Lip balm.
* A coin purse, just like my Dad's, currently empty.
* Five keys.
* A Maglight Solitaire flashlight.
* A keyfob with spare batteries for my watch.
* My new Swiss Army Knife.

Why still carry the pen and the maglight with the Swiss Army Knife? Well, the knife light is red but the maglight is white. And the knife pen refill was dried up when I got it, but the vendor is sending a new one: after that, if the refill is black, I might lose the pen, but I think it will be blue and I always have to use a black pen at work.

What was the point then of getting a knife that has a pen and a light in it? Are you kidding? It's shiny!

So, what do you carry in your pockets or purse?
